The 2017 GMC Canyon Has More Power Than Ever

2017 GMC Canyon Daphne

You love the GMC Canyon for its ability to tow and haul with ease combined with its smaller size that is perfect for maneuvering around town on a daily basis. For the 2017 model year, the Canyon is about to get even better thanks to a little extra power from a different V6 engine. GMC is also adding two trim levels so Daphne drivers have even more choices than in the past.

The Updated V6 in the 2017 GMC Canyon

Instead of the engine it previously had that generated 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, the new 3.6-liter V6 in the 2017 GMC Canyon is the same one in several Cadillac models. If you have driven the XT5, CT6, CTS, or ATS with a V6, then you are already familiar with this V6, which will be working with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine has improved direct injection and variable valve timing. It also features Active Fuel Management, a feature that deactivates two of the cylinders as a way of increasing fuel efficiency as well as performance. This particular V6 is also more powerful, generating 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. While these improvements are small, you are still likely to notice at least a small improvement.

New GMC Canyon All Terrain X and Denali

To expand the appeal of the Canyon, GMC is also adding two new trim levels to this pickup for the 2017 model. The Canyon Denali will be exactly what Daphne drivers expect based on other GMC Denali models, a luxurious version of the Canyon. The Denali has interior upgrades, more chrome, and a Bose sound system with seven speakers. The other new trim for the 2017 Canyon is the All Terrain X. This trim is based on the Canyon SLE, and it lets you pick from the new engine and the familiar 2.8-liter Duramax turbodiesel. It is designed for rugged use with a spray-on bedliner, body-color grille surround, body-color rear step bumper, bespoke 17-inch aluminum wheels, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac all-terrain tires.
